Custom Save function

I have created a custom save function within administrator/controllers/mycontroller.php that is executing properly when I hit the save button, however it seems as though a built in function that is made from the component creator is still executing as well. I only have one input for my admin (url) and it is saving that to a new row in the database. There for everytime I hit save my function will fire off, create a new row in the database, and then another row with just the url inserted will also get created. Any ideas?
