Every month, we sit down and talk to one of our users and feature their story on our blog. This month we talked with Luis Orozco, Lead web developer, at www.phpmyjoomla.com.

Tell us a little about yourself

I have been working at Matchbyte for three years as lead web developer, in the development and improvement of Joom | Air and Joom | Hotel. These tools are developed and integrated with Joomla.

What does your company do?

Matchbyte is a leading solutions provider to the aviation industry with over 50 years of combined airline and commercial software experience. The company has around 40 employees. The head office is in Melbourne (Australia), however, we also have offices in Singapore, London and Denver.

How long have you been using Component Creator?

I have been using Component Creator since beginning of 2013. I read about the tool in a Joomla forum and since then I always use it when I have to create a component in Joomla.

Roughly how many components have you built using Component Creator?

I have created about 25 different components and I also have modules associated to some of these components.

How much time do you estimate Component Creator has saved you?

I would say that for every component, we save at least 2 or 3 hours. Since the philosophy of the company where I work is the speed of creating software, it is also really important to have a clean and well structured code. These two objectives can be accomplished when we use Joomla! Component Creator.

Can you give an example of a component that was built using Component Creator?

I used Component Creator to build a component called phpMyJoomla. This component is used to manage the databases of Joomla websites. You can view all data from tables , display quick searches with a filter system, have tables that update in real time and then export the content to pdf, csv, etc. www.phpmyjoomla.com

Another example: The company I work for, Matchbyte created a component to manage the promo fares of airlines. Basically, they can manage promo fares in the backend, then choose how and when the promos appear in the frontend view of the module that we created.

Do you have any suggestions on how we can improve Component Creator?

I think a plugin and or a module generator would be very cool, because you can associate the modules and plugins to a specific component, add events, improve the components and the developer life.

What do you like best about Component Creator?

The best thing about Component Creator is that it is very easy to use, and it saves you a lot of time. It is also very good if you are a Joomla! Developer. You will be able to understand the code pretty easily since it is very well organized and uses the standards of the Joomla code. For this reason, it is very easy to change, add, delete or improve the code.
